That's how many hours it took for Jacques-Imo to come out from under the bed. It was about 4:15 Saturday afternoon when he ran under there, and he finally emerged around 6:45 Sunday morning. I decided to give him time to feel it out for himself, but I wanted him to know he could come out and see me whenever he wanted, so I slept on the floor. Halfway under the bed. Talk about dedication.
At about 2:30, he tried to come out twice, but just couldn't make it all the way before getting spooked back under. Then, at 6:45, I heard him hacking away so I woke up and noticed he was nervously coughing as he was approaching me. Once he felt safe enough, he slowly crawled up next to me and laid down. Whew! Thank goodness. I took him out for a short walk and then we got in my bed, to sleep some more...like normal people. He curled up right next to my tummy and slumbered away, drooling for the next 6 hours. He's making improvements.
Yesterday, he did pretty well, however he has still not eaten one thing since I've had him. I ran errands and when I got back, I heard him barking for the first time. He must have heard the garage open and was wanting me to come get him. So sweet! Well, I actually think he wanted to get on the couch more than he actually wanted to see me. He's definitely found his comfort zone there - he no longer curls up in a ball. This fella stretches out!
I invited my mom over for dinner since I was actually cooking, and we decided to see if maybe he'd eat a little piece of human food. She sat some salmon next to him, waiting for him to eat it up. Yeah, not so much. However, while mom was sitting next to him, he showed interest in her ice cream. Well, folks, the dog has now eaten.
We figured as long as he got something in his belly, it'd be alright. It was just vanilla, so it wouldn't hurt him. I went to the store and got some plain yogurt and cottage cheese to see if he'd like that also, but it was a no-go. The dog just wants his ice cream. I left his food in his kennel with him today, so hopefully while I'm gone, he'll start pecking away at some nutrition. I really need to put some weight on this poor little guy. He's sooo skinny!
Till next time...

Ice Cream for dinner? You found your soul-dog.
He is so sweet. I hope you and he have a long happy life together! ;)
No messes under the bed during the 16-hour standoff?
Hopefully he'll come out of his shell. Nola was pretty timid for the first week with us.
What a little sweetie!! Dogs and kids....sometimes ice cream is all you can get in them....
