Concert Two

Chris, Danette, Kacy, Marcus and I ventured out to the House of Blues on Saturday night to see Matt Wertz perform. He is awesome and I definitely recommend checking out his music if you like John Mayer, Jason Mraz, etc. C. Carroll - I totally thought of you when I heard him play. It totally sounds like something you'd like.

I hadn't been to the HOB before and neither had Marcus. He said that if he would have known they sold beer in cans in the concert rooms, he would have come prepared with his own koozie. He was completely shocked when I said I actually carry one with me at all times and pull my beloved LSU koozie out of my purse. Luckily for him, I was drinking Blue Moon out of a plastic cup, so he got full access to my neoprene. Is it weird that I carry a koozie in my purse? I once wondered if that meant I was an alcoholic. Then I realized that if I was an alcoholic, I wouldn't need a koozie because I'd drink my beer too fast.

He put on a great show and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There was one big complaint though, and that was that none of the younger crowd would stop talking when he was singing his slower songs or trying to explain the background behind the music. I was extremely embarassed for the lack of respect that Dallas showed him during his concert and am appalled that these people have such a sense of entitlement to do what they please. Never have I been to a concert where so many people talked, used their phones to call or text other people, or just threw beer cans and cups down on a nice wood floor. It wasn't like we were at Fair Park or anything, but these people had no couth about them what-so-ever. I know it's hard for me to talk, since I'm not always full of tact, but I at least went to hear the music instead of to have social hour. It was even more disgusting when Matt actually stopped talking to ask them to be quiet and listen to him for 5 minutes while he could explain one of his passions and the reason why he wrong one of his songs, but the chatter only continued. I think I'm going to email him and apologize for the Dallas crowd, because I feel so bad to be guilty by association.

The Douchiest Phone Message in History

This was taken off a website, but I couldn't help but to repost. I'm losing it!

In all my years of studying douchebaggery, never have i encountered anything like this. It’s such pure and unadulterated douche that I wish I could bottle it and use just a drop of it at a time.

The back story on this is that a girl named Olga was out with her friends in the Marina district of San Francisco (known for being a popular hang out for douches), and she talked to this guy named Dmitri for all of two minutes. Then she gave him her card and said “give me a call.” The above is the messages he left. Listen to the whole thing, it just keeps getting better and better. I won’t even tell you my favorite parts because i don’t want to ruin anything. Just listen.

Breaking News: Train Derails in McKinney

TOP STORY:  5 Train Cars Break Loose and Jump Track Near Hank's in McKinney.

All were very excited to celebrate Mark & Scott's 29th birthday last night at the Johnny Cooper acoustic show @ Hank's.  It's a pretty awesome venue for a good 'ole time, minus their shitty customer service and overly-entitled bouncers.  Mark, Maegan, Scott, Abby and myself, along with a few other friends, came prepared with our party shoes and drinking hats.

I was glad for the opportunity to throw on my boots and jeans, which always causes me to get a little out-of-hand. Back in March, I bought these awesome new boots, but they're kind of on the bright side. Kind of what you might find on Mexican (no offense) in a front-yard fiesta. It was seriously only about 45 minutes before I started showing off my boots. Can't guarantee anything, but I may have been spotted hiking up my jeans and displaying my footwear yelling Arriba, Arriba! Ayayayayayayaeeeeee! (Say the letter i 10times in a row, REALLY fast and end with a couple of high-pitched e's) and possibly a few Ahhhhhhh-haaaahhhh's. I'm going to go ahead and say that I was on a clear path of destruction, but the other 4 Stanga Train cars weren't too far behind from the madness.

It didn't take me too long to wander off from the group to the inside bar and began making a group of new friends. I squeeze my way up to a bar stool to order a frothy brew, when I was noticed by a group of 10 guys standing around shooting the shit. I'm a sharp girl, I can hang. The guy standing next to me was wearing a hat with a crimson-colored 'A' on it, so I immediately go "Oohhhh, you're an 'Bama fan. Do you honestly like Nick Saban?" His response was that he was pleased with him as a coach and a recruiter. Once he learns I'm an LSU girl through and through, we start a friendly SEC banter and then keep talking about other random crap.

a9-01

About 30 minutes go by when Abby walks through to the restroom, spots me and stops to talk. Apparently they had all been wondering where I had gone, but I just told them I was making new friends. Abby talks for a few minutes then makes her way back to the concert. 30 minutes later, Maegan finds me and asks the same question about if this was where I had been the whole time. For some reason, when I go out with my brothers, I always end up roaming around making new friends. They're pretty impressed that I'm able to handle my own. Anyway, like an hour after my disappearance, Mark stumbles his way over with one eye open and joins in the convo.

MARK: (to me) Where the hell have you been? We've been looking for you!!!
MARK: (to my new friend) Alabama fan, huh? What do you think of Nick Saban? Y'all having a rough streak with some of your players?

NEW FRIEND (to me and Mark.) Seriously? I was just asked this an hour ago by her (pointing to me.) This is weird!

ME: (to new friend) Yeah, that's my brother.

NEW FRIEND: Ahhh, gotcha. That makes sense.

Mark finally leaves and about 15 minutes later, Scott does the same damn walk-through. He was excited to spot me and came immediately over to me.

SCOTT: (to me) Why do you always just roam around? You're retarded.
SCOTT: (to new friend) Oh shit, an Alabama fan huh? You liking Nick Saban so far? Couple of criminals on your team right now, eh?

NEW FRIEND: Holy shit! This is the 3rd time in 2 hours I've been asked this same question. It's like a broken record. And didn't you just ask me this 15 minutes ago?

ME: Yeah, that's my brother. My other brother, they're twins.

NEW FIREND: Oh my god! Y'all are just alike. What the hell is going on here?

As the concert ends, the whole group makes their way out of the bar and we all meet up and continue talking with our new rivalry friends. Um, pretty sure Scott invited them to his wedding and then to his house for an after party last night for a couple more beers. Like any of us needed anymore. So of course they join in on the fun and end up crashing on the floor of Abby's house too. We're pretty hospitable like that.

Bright and early this morning before 8, we were all pretty much awake and DYING. Mark and Scott claimed to still be drunk, Maegan had a little headache, Abby wasn't quite sure how she was going to feel the rest of the day and I pretty much knew for a fact that my day would suck! I was in RARE form last night, but I think we all were. At least we all had a great time, lots of laughs and a great memory of the boys' last birthday in their 20s. Happy birthday again brothers. I love y'all!

Another Year Older

Happy 29th Birthday Mark & Scott.

Enjoy your last year before your dirty thirties. Can't wait to throw on my boots and jeans and celebrate with you two and the lovely new Stanga gals tonight! Love you brothers!

Spanglish

So of course last night was Wednesday, so that only means one thing. HAPPY HOUR with the best girls ever! We reunited at Uncle Julio's, which is a familiar place to us, and is actually where I got my official initation into 'womanhood,' (inside joke - don't ask.) Anyway, one question to start off this entry. Why is it a Mexican joint called Uncle Julio's? Why not Tio Julio's? Just a little food for thought.

Poor Tammi, she can't even drink but she still joins us each week. She just can't stay away from the frivolous laughs and the smell of beer. Her baby bump is starting to make a small appearance. Super cute!

Robyn was so kind last night and blessed us with such a practical and handy gift. Clearly we spent a lot of time at bars and such, so the floors can be disgusting - what better than to have a purse hanger for the table? Thanks roomie - you're the best! :)

Later in the evening, Harris joined us. We haven't seen her since our run-in with the infamous Sheryl, so it was nice to catch up with her. She even had a real spectacular story to share. This past weekend, she was out on the lake with her best guy friends, when two skanktastic girls boarded the boat. She was initially annoyed with their personalities, but soon got over and kept to herself. One chick was constantly complimenting her on how pretty she was and how cute of a figure she had and what great teeth and what great hair. Harris said she was starting to get a little bit creeped out by the constant bombardment of flattery, but didn't think too much of it. Turns out, the chick cornered Harris in the front part of the boat and said "If your vagina is half as pretty as you are, I'd love to see it!" That was it - she had had enough of that and immediately got off the boat. CRAZY..and GROSS! Where do we find such interesting creatures?

Mucho grassy-ass to C. Harris for entertaining us with yet another borderline-unbelievable story. Can't wait to see y'all next week!

That's How They Roll

Much love to Kacy for providing me with this.

I've never understood why people feel the need to use their car as a billboard for the things they love but, they do.

I think you all remember Cat Mom (reference blog: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=45821505&blogID=345590657&Mytoken=438AA8CB-98C1-49D7-9D1250EFE9927729150714120)

Well ... ever since that blog I am constantly camera ready to snap anything on the road that may seem odd/funny/etc. And, so have my friends. People send me pictures all the time! So, I have a little collection going now and thought I'd share. Enjoy!

Let's start with a flashback to Cat Mom. It's a classic:

Then there is Scrap Book lady from yesterday ...

Lane got this one. It is two bucket seats in the bed of a truck. Makes a two-seater, into a four-seater! It even had cup holders.

Next, from Casey, this nice shot. This person doesn't just love Tyler. And, doesn't just love roses. They love Tyler AND roses. And, they don't necessarily just love Tyler roses. Just Tyler. And, just roses.

Next, from my personal snapshot collection ...

Casey also sent this one in a while back. It's just amazingly funny!

Another from Lane from this weekend. This lady was extremely old ... driving a convertible in a red, sequin-covered paperboy hat. Ha!

Another from Miss Lane. Look up the website! LOL

Another from Lane. This was taken outside of a multi-million dollar house in Highland park. It's not a golf cart and it's not a security cart ...

Took this one on the tollway. Something you don't see every day:

The dirtiest person ever (from McKinney):

This is a homemade trike. I took this on Hwy 635. There are FOUR people on this thing - and room for a 5th! I know gas prices are high but carrying five people on one motorcycle might be over the line:

Lastly, the most awesome ride I've ever seen on the skreets!

If you have any pictures - send them! Always have your camera with you! (Just don't risk your life on the road!) I'll do a Part II in a few months :)

Lagniappe

Pronounced LAN-yap. Laginappe is another fine specimen of the coonass language that frequents my daddy's communication.  It means a little something extra - like when you go to the donut shop and they throw in a few extra donut holes for free.

Well being the fine, upscale women that we are, Robyn and I always feel it's appropriate to stock our fridge with beer.  Nothing like washing down a big chunk of meat with a cold brew at dinner.
Sure, we keep the bar stocked with the typical vodka, rum, tequila, scotch (remember, I'm a 50 year old man,) and of course a selection of delicious wine, but nothing says feminism like a 12-pack.  It's a usual item on our grocery list and when I did the shopping two weeks ago, I went ahead and picked up some Miller Lite and then a 6-pack of Michelob Ultra Cactus Lime.  Have you had that?  MMMM, it's so light, refreshing and really yummy.  Perfect for a hot summer day!

Anyway, Robyn calls me tonight wondering why in the world I would buy tall-boys.  At first I didn't know what she was talking about, then I thought maybe she had said long-necks but I was so confused, because I knew I didn't buy bottles.  Sure enough, I get home, open the outside fridge and...tall-boys.  How stinkin' white trash is that?  Shouldn't it be against the law for girls to even think of purchasing a tall-boy.  I thought those were only sold in brown paper bags at the gas station on the corner.  Who knew they came in a 12-pack?  This serves as a public service announcement for all those uneducated beer purchasers.  Damn, and I thought I had a pretty good handle on the world of beer knowledge.

Oh well, 16 oz tall-boys for us.  You know, just when you need a little langniappe.

Dieting

Is the worst invention in the whole entire world. I'm starving. I just ate. And I'm starving!

I don't really need to lose weight or anything, but I'm just hoping to change my eating habits for the next month, in order to be a tiny bit healthier and temporarily get rid of my hard-earned beer gut, so I am not squeezing into my bridesmaid dress for Scott and Abby's beach wedding. I refuse to be 'that sister.' You know, the one with the boobage hanging out all over the place, the one with zipper threatening to pop off like a champagne cork at any given moment-striking one of the wedding guests in the eye and blinding them, the one with that will look 4 months pregnant after eating one single bite of cake. I refuse to be the subject of conversation "Who was that one bridesmaid that had no business wearing that dress?"..."Oh shhh. That's the groom's younger sister. I know, it totally wasn't flattering!"

So with that, I have taken a routine of a Special K bar in the morning. Seriously, the hunger I feel eating after one of those is ridiculous if compared to when I eat a big honkin' blueberry donut and a kolache. Don't snicker at me. Ms. Woo at the local donut shop pretty much knows me and my order by now. Sure, I'm a heffer - but I'm making friends while I'm getting that way. Eating such a light breakfast means that I have to eat lunch way earlier than normal, before I die of hunger.

What the hell is up with Lean Cuisines? I'm not going to lie, I really do enjoy many of their flavors and it isn't the food that bothers me. It doesn't necessarily leave me that hungry, the portions are pretty good, but not too large. I'm beginning to appreciate not having to unbutton my pants, like I do after a lunch of cheeseburgers and tacos. This isn't a joke. It's like I'm a disgusting beer-drinkin, balding-head scrathching, wife-beater wearing, unemployed, Jerry Springer watching, middle aged man with his pants undone after a real satisfying all-you-can-eat buffet. What does irritate me to no end though is as soon as I'm done eating, I automatically crave something sweet. I'm not a huge sweet eater, with the exemption of cake, but this is a directly-correlated cause and effect: LC = Sweet Tooth. If I were to keep some sweets in my desk, I'd eat them in one sitting, so I'm left with an alternative snack for mid-afternoon.

100 calorie popcorn bags are a great idea. I really like the Kettle Corn option because it gives me a little bit of sweet with a little bit of salt, and I no longer am tempted to go buy a cupcake down at Celebrity, which by the way suck. I seriously haven't had a cupcake that dry and disgusting in a long time. And to be from Celebrity? What a disappointment! Anyway, so I have a box of 100-calorie packs to eat a few hours after lunch. Since it's a smaller portion, you don't have to microwave it for as long, as the box instructs to put it in for a minute to a minute & a half or until pops are 1 to 2 seconds part. Ok, 1.5 minutes goes by - no popping. Another 1.5 minutes - no popping. Another 1.5 minutes - 2 pops. 30 seconds more - 4 pops. Add 30 more seconds to that running total - 3 pops. Add another 1 minute - no popping. One last shot at 30 more seconds - 1 pop. Screw that. I took my bag of inpotent popcorn back to my office and was going to pick through the pieces. 100 calorie packs? No shit! I think they were a bit generous with the calorie countage, I'm going with 5 calories. Of the kernals that actually popped, maybe like 3 didn't burn.

Please excuse my eloquent speech, but F*CK THIS! I'm going to Double Daves tonight for some pepperoni rolls dripping in copious amounts of ranch and marinara sauce. I can't wait to bite into a hot, calorie-packed mound of carbs and have pepperoni grease run down my elbows. Then, I will unbutton my pants.

Why does my dress not fit again?

"I'll Show You!"

That was the theme of last night's happy hour for various reasons. It was pretty much a warning to all significant others to not make negative comments about their girlfriends/wives because the physical conditions can get a whole lot worse!

Thank god the happy hour crew is back for regular Wednesday night bevs. We had to take a few weeks off due to busy schedules, but we're back on track, making our way around different venues. Even pregnant Tammi is taking one for the team and showing up each week. Unfortunately, the doctor told her she needs to lay off any unnecessary sugar, so she wasn't able to order her virgin daquiri's.

Last night, Pappadeaux on the tollway was the lucky winner to receive the gift of our presence. Being that the last day for crawfish was on Tuesday, Kacy ordered the Pappas Greek Salad, which is prepared at the table with all kinds of different ingredients. She wanted a simple one with only cucmbers and shrimp, so they presented her with a plate displaying the 20 cucumber slices and 1 shrimp. I start laughing and whisper to Kacy, "You only got one shrimp!" She denied my claim and said no, there was more in a bowl or something. Okay dude, whatevs! This is what her salad came out as. Please notice that I was right, only one shrimp!

After eating, Kacy presented me with the best present ever. It is not a hidden secret that I turn Jewish when it comes to grocery shopping and I appreciate coupons to no end! While in Tyler, she found this bad boy in the 80's packaging. She was probably just as excited to give it to me as I was to receive it!

Of course we had to try it out right then and there. There was no way I could withold my excitement until I got home.

Our happy hour is not just for retarded laughs, we do have some genuine laughs. We learn so much about each other that wouldn't normally come out in everyday conversation. Tammi has a twin sister who turned lesbian after meeting her wife, (who was married to a man at the time) playing Everquest online. Janee said that her and her mom were relieved that her brother didn't turn out gay. I definitely mentioned the contents of the email I received from my brother earlier in the day, which will be its own blog in due time. Being that Tammi is pregnant, we got on the topic of birth. Much like myself, Kacy was comfortably staying put in her momma's tummy 'til well after her due date. By the time she was actually born, she was such a large baby, she was practically a grown damn woman! They had to immediately cut her nails because they were long like an adult's, and get this...they skipped the breastfeeding and the formula and went straight to cereal. This chick was 3 hours old and being fed cereal. How spectacular is that?

****************

I don't claim to be any kind of geography genius, but it's nice to know my friends are just as dumb as me! :) When we got home, we were both slightly tipsy and tired, but we had to catch up on The Bachelorette from Monday night. During the viewing, Robyn goes "I didn't think there were mountains in Florida." I looked at her dumbfoundedly and said "There aren't. There are mountains in California." Her response, "What? But they're in Palm Springs. Why are they showing they're in the mountains if they're in Florida?" I informed her the Palm Springs was actually in California, not Florida and she goes "Well see, look at the palm trees. They're in Florida." Whatever chick!

I Got a New Job

She Want Da Gold

She Want Da Gold

Remember my slightly UN-P.C. entry about a certain type of people craving the gold and that we did a parody of it for St. Patty's Day. Well, we were not lying folks. As Kacy says, if you put something shiny and gold in front of them, it will be stoled.

First of all, you must realize that for some reason, Robyn believes she is from the hood, because she sports a metallic gold cell phone. It screams ghettofabulous!
Last week, Robyn & Trey went to eat lunch at Chili's and she accidently left her phone on the table. She had barely made it out the door and to the car before she realized what had happened, so she went back to retrieve it. Nope, too late, it had already been jacked. The manager denied any allegations and they said no phone had been turned in...in the last minute and a half, but it was nowhere to be found. The waitress kept her distance while everyone else was searching, but she did have a suspicious look about her. Not to mention, a blingin' gold toof, so I'm sure she just wanted her celly to match. This lead Robyn to have to resort to a $40 Go-Phone. I think you can get them at Wal-Mart...or better yet, 7-11. If she wasn't a downright hoodrat with that gizzold phizzone, she's a for real hot ghetto mess with her new means of communication.

I GOT A NEW JOB...

...and it's downtown. Really, that's a bold-faced lie, but apparently I was lead to believe it this morning. I was in my normal trance while driving to work this morning, and when I was sitting in traffic in an unfamiliar place, I began to wonder where the crap I was. I look around me and see cement walls lining the tollway, so I look up at the bridge over my head and see a sign that says Mockingbird. Hmmm - well I'm actually supposed to exit before Mockingbird, turn left at the light and cross the bridge. Instead, I was sitting under it. Interesting, how on earth could I unknowingly miss my exit when I've been driving the same route for nearly 2 years. Whatever, I'm a complete idiot! I did learn a few things though on my new adventure. There is not a southbound exit for the next major street, Lemmon Ave, therefore I had to drive even further south to Wycliff. The construction and traffic there is a real doozie, let me tell you. Another great thing I learned this morning, while trying to get to work, is that if you sit at a light at Cedar Springs and Wycliff long enough, you'll realize that the drag queens actually walk to their day jobs in outfits not too different than the outfits they were at night. Very interesting.

Seasonal Settings

I can't help it. I just LOVE table settings. I know it's really a big pain in the ass to move all this crap over if I actually want to sit at the table and eat (lord knows I wouldn't actually use that stuff for real,) but I absolutely love having a pretty display. I usually change it up for each season, and sometimes I even have two different settings for each season. I think I'm finally equipped with enough different options that I no longer need to buy any more crap. Good thing though, my server is getting kind of full.

Yesterday, I found a super cute reversable blue table runner, place mats and napkins on clearance. I always use opt for place mats instead of a runner, so I decided to change it up a bit this time. It wasn't totally a summer pattern, but I liked it too much not to get it. I tried looking for some plates or a centerpiece that would match and make it brighter, but no such luck. I'm not quite sure if I'm totally in love with the ensemble, but it's definitely summer-ish and I was able to use some things I already had. Why I have such random items, I'll never know.

I do have to admit however, that the napkins and runner aren't on a total mark-down clearance. I did stand in the store for at least 5 minutes debating if I should really buy something that was ONLY 30% off. What the heck, I'll just buy the damn things! But to make up for it, I did have a FANTASTIC deal at Albertsons this weekend, and I must share. If any of you drink the Lipton Green Tea bottles, they're on sale but the ad has it marked wrong. I specifically went there because the ad said there was a 24 pack of 16 oz bottles on sale for $5.99, instead of $7.99. Turns out, they don't make a 24 pack, but the sale sign in the store said a 12-pack was on sale for $5.99. I didn't care what the in-store sign said, the ad I got in the mail said 24, so I marched up there with my two 12 packs and was going to demand I get one free. It worked well with the manager, but the cashier had a fine time debating with me and trying to figure out how to take it off my total. BUT WAIT, I also found a sticker coupon on one of the 12-packs that said $2 off the purchase of two 12-packs. So for $3.99, I got 24 bottles of that delicious tea when I normally should have paid nearly $16. God, I'm the greatest bargain shopper EVER!

Father's Day Surprise

We had a big surprise this weekend, and that was sister Molly. She had two big reasons for popping up unannounced, and we are thankful she did. Being in NOLA, she hates not getting to see Claire grow or hang out with the fam, so this was the perfect weekend getaway for her. She was able to spend the day with the of the world's greatest fathers: Daddy and Mark.

Even though Aunt Molly hasn't been around too many babies, and was a little nervous with how fast you had to feed, burp, feed, burp, feed the little one, she loved getting to hold her niece for the first time. She barely put her down all weekend long.

Molly was so funny about trying to burp Claire, and couldn't quite get the technique down. Mark asked me to jump in and help, so I did. Molly held her while I patted. Teamwork always works! :)

Now, her trip wasn't ONLY about the baby, but mostly. She did get to spend some QT with Mikey. He loved having all his kids and grandbaby around for Father's Day. It's been a long time since he's had all 4 kids home for his special day. The only thing he wanted, other than to see us, was new crocs. Did you know that if you wear crocs every day for 2 years, you'll create a hole in the bottom of them? He was so excited about his new kicks, but he loves his old ones still, he figured it'd be best to just wear all 4.

Neaux Tigers, Neaux!

Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I must translate for all youz non-swamp peepls. That is, No Tigers, No!

Dem (them) Tigers from Elleshyew (LSU) rowed dere (their) pirot (pee-row) cross dat (that) bayou ova by (to) Omaha, Nebraska, sporting their finest purple and gold, for the NCAA World Series.

We were excited to spend Father's Day as a family at my parents house, lookin at our Beloved Bayou Bengels (term of endearment for our team) on da television (watch on tv.) Claire is so lucky to be initiated into the LSU watching parties at such an early age.

"I LOVE DRESSING UP WITH MY TINI FOR THE GAMES!"
We started off the game strong, with two powerful home runs, but then we just seemed to lose all of our juice. This right about the time Claire started yelling at the tv. She is definitely a true Stanga, and a true LSU fan.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE GUYS DOING? YOU'RE LOSING YOUR LEAD. GETCHUR SHIT TOGETHER!"
Towards the 8th inning, it looked like we were able to make a come back. We had given them a break to fire their asses back up with some hot hot gumbo - and they were coming back for revenge. We totally had an opportunity to come back and win, if it weren't for a certain 1st base umpire.

"SERIOUSLY, UMP? ARE YOU BLIND? LANDRY WAS TOTALLY SAFE! THAT MAKES ME WANT TO VOMIT IN MY MOUTH...LITERALLY!"
We ended up losing the game, but we still have another shot. But all that excitement is bound to make a lil baby tired. It's time for Claire to go make dodo (doe-doe.) That doesn't mean make doo-doo, but it means to go to sleep - you know, in Cajun.

"G'NITE FOLKS. SEE YOU FOR THE NEXT GAME - MY CRIB - BRING YOUR OWN BOTTLES!"
