My mom's mom, Claire, was always a southern belle, full of life and charm, and never did she age too much to enjoy her daily afternoon cocktail. Her agenda was quite full with fabulous events to attend, and being a member of the country club, she had a high-society status to maintain. One particular visit to Covington, LA was definitely one for the books. Mom and Pop (we also called my grandma "Mom" or "Mom R.,") had a formal gala at the country club, so Mom pulled out one of her finest long sleeve gowns and draped it over the ironing board while she got ready. She was a fairly talented seamstress and always had sewing supplies laying around, including her very sharp fabric scissors. I'm sure you can already see where this is going, and when I mention that little 5 year old Scott was involved, you can only imagine the outcome. Mom walked out of the bathroom, all dolled up and ready to compliment her beauty with a stunning dress. A long sleeved formal dress. A long sleeved formal dress with only one sleeve remaining. My parents thought my poor grandma was about to blow a fuse, so they quickly ushered us out the door and were taking us to our cousins' house for the remainder of the night. Just seconds before we could all make it to the calm 'free world' there was one final conversation. Scott was questioned why on earth he would ever think of doing such a thing. His response: "Well....um....you shouldn't have left it there!!!" Sure, makes perfect sense. Next time I see something laying around, I'm just going to chop off part of it and see if that fixes anything.
