Big Big Changes This Year!

Of course, this is the one night (aside from New Year's Eve) where you are allowed to dress as skanktastic as possible and can totally get away with it. Isn't it great? I sure have had my fair share of trashy costumes...

However, this year, you can expect some mighty big changes from me. I think I'm growing up. *tear* Or I'm losing my figure. *bigger tear* Anyway, I will finally reveal the most baddest ass costume for this year... Are you ready for it? Can you handle it?

BLIGGITY BLAM!!!

Since Keith isn't having his annual Halloween Bash, I'm a little sad about this years festivities. Sure there are other parties going on, but I know it just won't be the same. But, good news is that it's opening weekend, so I'll be down at the ranch having Halloween - Country Style! Yeehawwwww!

Happy Halloween to all my family, friends and blurkers.

Queen Of The Jews!

That's right, this is my new official title and I couldn't be any more proud of it. This means I am ruler of all things thrifty, frugle, cheap, bargains - whatever you wish to call it.

I like to get ahead in life and add a few pennies to my wallet by playing a fun game I like to call Where Did My Prescription Go? Don't act like none of you have played this game *ahem...Danette.* Of course, if there is a coupon in the weekly ads for getting a $25 or $30 gift card for a transfered prescription, DUH I'm going to transfer it. It hardly causes me any problems, maybe just the occasional question of which store I actually need to go to, but it's totally worth it for the gift cards.

So last week, I clipped a coupon for a $25 card to Walgreens with a transferred Rx. I called CVS in University Park to have them transfer it to the Walgreens near my house so I could rack up my cash. I go to pick it up yesterday and the pimple-faced kid who was trying to work the register couldn't figure out my insurance information and denied my coverage. Whatever fool, I have coverage. How else do I get this same medication every single month? So I am ten kinds of pissed off and told him that I would just have it transfered BACK to CVS (the one in North Dallas this time) where they actually know how to submit an insurance claim. So all that for nothing...no free gift card and still no Rx. Oh, poop!

CVS said they'd need a couple of hours before my Rx would be ready, so I stopped back at home to do some chores and I just happened to look at the CVS ad while I waited and sure enough...*Get a $30 gift card with a transferred prescription.* HECK YES! I march in there proudly to claim my meds and free money, and I even get $2 CVS reward dollars off.

Had I not been such an opportunist, and not transferred the Rx to Walgreens (where those idiots couldn't figure out the system,)I would just be refilling a prescription that was already at CVS,instead of having to re-transfer the Rx back to where it originally came from, there being eligible for the $30 gift card. Geez, I'm good!

I'm An Addict

In many senses of the term. Not only am I a Crackberry addict in Marty's opinion, which PS - I don't even have a Blackberry, but whatever cowboy - I'm also totally in love with my precious little niece.

This is us playing last week. She gets excited about the simplest things, such as her BOO! Halloween bib.

She definitely melts the hearts of everyone she meets. Marty got to meet her for the first time this weekend, and within 5 minutes of seeing her, he stole her from me and didn't give her back for two and a half hours! He loved on her so much, it put them both to sleep for a good 30-45 minute nap. There's a heart breaker in this picture, only I'm not sure which one of them it is...

Apparently, the rest of DFW thinks she's pretty darn cute too. She's now made it to the Top 25 in Kiss FM's Most Kissable Baby Contest, and the voting continues every day until Thursday. Let's hope we can get her into the top 5. Like I mentioned before, she's definitely our most-kissable baby, even if nobody else thinks so! :)

To vote, visit KISS FM's MOST KISSABLE BABY and select the one and only Miss Claire Elizabeth! The web page will send you an email to confirm your vote, and sometimes it goes to junk mail. Just a warning. Thanks to all who help us become even more obnoxious and self-centered! :)

Hit Me With Your Best Shot!

Pat Benatar says it best. Let's just say we were blowin' some shit up this weekend down at Cheatham Ranch...both figuratively and literally!

Praise the lord that the burn ban has been lifted from Bosque and Coryell Counties and we were able to have a bonfire. Good thing too, because it was soooo cold outside, like a freezing 70 degrees. Does that flame appear to be a little too tall and out of control?
What is a trip to the country without busting out the big guns? Well, the boys played rifles and g-forty while I played nine mm. It's been almost a year since I've picked up that piece, so I was a little rusty at first. It also could have been that I started from quite the distance, but once I moved up to a more reasonable spot, I was hitting much better. Regardless of how far off I might have been initially, that mooncricket would totally have been hurting a little. Oh, an if you have any questions regarding WTF a mooncricket is, please address your questions to Mr. Miller in Temple, Texas. I keep my target practice, or what I like to call Silhouette Shootout, to a simple stand-and-shoot technique, but Rambo himself prefers to add a few obstacles to his course. Wait one second...it gets even better. It was totally necessary for him to see how long it would take him to shoot one full clip (with an obstruction to his path,) replace it with a second clip, and continue. It took a few rusty attempts, to say the least, but he finally smoothed it out. How else do you time something when you don't have a stop watch? Duh, of course you film it!

Oh, the simple life. That loud, ringing-in-your-ears kind of simplicity, but the simple life nonetheless.

My Elementary Years Are Back To Haunt Me

*Tag! You're it! Nanny Nanny Boo Boo, You Can't Catch Me!*

OMG, somebody please stop the voices in my head. I just keep seeing a little fat, buck-toothed, pasty, freckled redhead running as fast as she could around the playground trying to actually come within a football field's reach of the other kids. How was I always 'it?' Was it because I couldn't move my fatass fast enough to get away from the other kids or was it just the luck of the draw? And when I was 'it,' I was 'it,' forever. Forever! Probably, because that same fat that caused me to be tagged, also kept me slow enough to never torment any of the other kids with the threat of my hand and that awful word "Tag!" Damn you Danette, I hate tag, but I guess I can put my past behind me and play along.

Rules: Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people & posts their names, then goes to their blog & leaves them a comment letting them know that they have been tagged & asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you've answered the questions on your blog.

10 YEARS AGO I...
1. Had some kickass braces with my third rapid paletal expander. Get that? Third!!
2. Had one of the worst days of my life to date
3. Believed that the 'hot dog method' was the appropriate way to wear a tampon
4. Was one of few awkward girls at Armstrong Middle School to have ginormous boobs
5. Went to my 8th grade social with a purple dude. No, not Barney. My date was so black, he was purple. Here's looking at you William...

5 THINGS ON TODAY'S TO DO LIST...
1. Work stuff
2. Doctor's appointment
3. Mop my nasty kitchen floor, but let's be real - probably won't get that done tonight!
4. Take this disgusting polish off my toes and redo them
5. Target

5 THINGS I WOULD DO IF I WERE A MILLIONAIRE...
1. Buy everything on Target's clearance racks
2. Move out of this dang crowded city to a place with lots and lots of open spaces
3. Travel
4. Season tickets to several sporting events
5. Charity. I know this sounds like such a typical answer, but really, there are so many people I'd like to help.

5 PLACES I HAVE LIVED...
1. Plano - House 1
2. Plano - House 2
3. Baton Rouge
4. Allen - kinda at Jimmy's house, much to my mother's dismay
5. Dallas

5 JOBS I HAVE HAD...
1. Hostess and Waitress
2. Orthodontic Assistant
3. Teacher
4. Menial administrative employee in some shithole cube, fighting for Gold in the Rat Race
5. Legal Recruiter

Hmmm, who do I tag?? Since Danette already stole MY sister and MY sister-in-law, I guess I'll have to go find other people...

Christy, Cara, Ryndi, Mary Beth, Candi

Lil Lady...Bug

This little lovebug should probably be a centipede for Halloween instead of a precious little lady bug. Not because I think she is gross and slimy and all other things you think of when you think of centipedes, but because she made it to KISS FM's Top 100 Most-Kissable Babies. The voting continues through Wednesday to see who makes it to the Top 25. Don't think we won't be clicking every day for the next three days in hopes that we'll have a little pageant queen on our hands. http://www.1061kissfm.com/pages/contests/baby/

OH MY GAWWWWDDD! Have we come those kind of people?

She's At It Again

This beautiful birthday girl is on the loose, raking in another year of birthday celebrations! Happy Birthday to one of my two favorite sister-in-laws!

Oh, and Abby - please don't let Scott touch the birthday cake again...

Love ya, Mrs. Stanga!

The First Step to Recovery

... is Admitting You Have a Problem

Yes, I admit, I may just have a slight have a problem...a weird method of validating to myself that I am indeed, not as big of a tank ass as I may have once thought. Or maybe I am?

Lately, I've been packin' on the pounds in order to keep warm for winter. And yes, I know the pumpkin pies and holiday goodies aren't even out yet, but who needs that stuff when you have pizza, Mexican food and beer??? Let's just say that when the seasonal treats do finally come out of the oven, I'll be reeeaaaaalllyyyy warm and cozy.

Anyhoo, some strange midget must be coming into my closet at night and taking in my pant waists because they're just not making their way over my hips. After a few tugs and jumps around the room, I can finally get them around my gut, but therein lies another problem...the buttons. Now I'm pretty familiar with sporting the unbuttoned-pants look, but that usually only happens after lunch. Notice I said usually. I know I'm f*cked when I have to start my day, when I'm the skinniest, with them unbuttoned.

A few weeks ago, I decided to stroll around the Village during my lunch break and found myself staring at the sale racks. Since my size X's that fill my closet are begging for mercy, I figured I'd just give in and buy some bigger pants. I grab the one size up - size XX, and holy shit, they don't even fit over my thighs. It's worse than I thought! With tears in my eyes, I readdress the sizing situation and grab a second pair of pants, this time a size XXX. *SON OF A BITCH!* Oops, did I just scream that out loud in the middle of the dressing room? Now, having gone two sizes up from what I'm used to, and these f*cking things don't even button either? What is happening to me??? Obviously, I bolt out of the store without any new pants and am super depressed about my weight. Depressed enough to stop at Paciugo on my way out!

I try this shopping thing again Monday night, and I refuse to buy two sizes up, so I just try on the size XX again. They're a little tight, but I decided I will not wear them until I can fit in them comfortably. And that will be one day very very soon! This morning I woke up, put on the new pants for a test and PRAISE THE LORD, they are baggy! BAGGY! Don't think I didn't double check the tag to make sure I wasn't just dreaming. Because I did. Twice. Does this mean I can still fit into all my old clothes? I am just peachy today, strutting my stuff in my oh-so-saggy pants. Yes, they look hideous because they don't fit, but I am so excited that I can move in them and button them too!

On a little lunch outing to Target today, I decided to really test myself to the max. I secretly sneak over to the girls department, pick up the largest size girls pants that are made and take them to the fitting room. For some unknown reason, I feel that all is right in the world if I can squeeze my lard ass into a girls' size 16 pant. What the hell kind of test is that? I'm a grown woman, how could I possibly expect to judge my size based on little girl's clothing? I know it's no fair to myself, but I still do it.

Turns out, I still have a weight problem. I could only get one leg into the pants before realizing I failed the ultimate test of all tests. I didn't really want those Hannah Montana sparkly pants, but then again...I kinda did!

It's Time To Vote!

So, Mark & Maegan decided to enter miss Claire in the KISS FM's Most-Kissable Baby Contest. They have admitted to transforming into those obnoxious annoying parents who do nothing but gloat over their child, demanding that she is the cutest thing in the world. But, I mean, they're right - she is the cutest thing in the world!!! Kidding, kidding ... kind of! ;)

I just can't wait to see all the adorable faces that advance in the rounds. Even if she isn't the final winner in the contest, she's still our most-kissable baby. And if you happen to know someone who's kid makes it farther in the contest than our baby girl, a big congratulations to their sweet little one -just don't tell me about it. I repeat...DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT IT!

So friends, family, stalkers, etc., if you could please be so kind to help our little princess advance in the election. I mean, this is probably the least-stressful vote you'll have to make this Fall. http://www.1061kissfm.com/pages/contests/baby/. She's listed alphabetically under Claire Elizabeth and her picture is the one used above. You can vote once a day until the end of the contest.

Good luck to all those sweet baby faces and Happy Voting!!!

"I Can't Believe You Weren't Fired 18 Months Ago!"

Was my sister's initial response when I told her that yesterday was my 2 year anniversary at my job. The past two years seem to have both crawled and flew by, depending on the situation and the season, but I do have some favorite moments that have really made me laugh until I was crying.

1. Please reference the Insert Foot In Mouth post about the time I told my boss to have fun playing with his balls.

2. The time we were out to eat for lunch and I realized my phone, which was silenced, was going off in my purse. I think my exact words were, "Oh hang on, I think my vibrator is going off!" Pretty sure he did a double take, started laughing and was praying to baby Jesus that I was referring to my phone. Luckily for us both, I was.

3. Also reference Still Employed to be reminded of the time I unknowingly walked into my boss's office with half my clothes falling off.

4. Our most recent awkward conversation had to be when he told me his wife was pregnant, knowing I knew they weren't planning on it for another year. Although we get along great and are both super laid back and pretty straight-forward, I could tell he was having a hard time finding a way to appropriately tell me that they didn't have to try very hard. I loved that his wife later called me to tell me more details, because she knew he was uncomfortable sharing everything with me.

There really are tons of great things we laugh at, especially with my severe case of diarrhea of the mouth and the ramblings that just leap off my tongue. I am honestly so glad that I have such a cool, laid back guy to work for. It makes things a whole lot more fun. For lunch today, to help celebrate my tenure, he took me to eat at one of his favorite little Mexican joints located near downtown. I am now sitting back in my office thinking that what I took to be a kind gesture and show of appreciation, is really just his inconspicuous attempt at getting rid of me. He probably has too big of a conscience to come right out and fire me, so he just decided to off me with some spice. Problem solved and nobody would suspect he did it. I just hope the swelling caused from the ridiculously hot salsa goes down before my funeral. I don't want anyone coming up to give their final good-byes thinking, "man, she's put on some weight."

Reason 739

...I Should Have Been Born A Dude

I received an invite to a baby shower for this upcoming Saturday. First, I looked at the date and panicked. Then, I looked at the time. SHIT! I started planning ways around it, but there just isn't a suitable explanation. I mean, I want to see everyone, but...

Who freaking schedules a baby shower during the Texas/Oklahoma football game? Oh wait, probably women because they think that's a perfect time. The men will all be busy watching the game, so the women can get together for a girls' party. But HELLO!?!?! I'm not really a woman, I'm just a man trapped in a woman's body.

Funny thing is, my mom and sister said the same thing "Oh no, how are we going to watch the game?"

Something about us Stanga girls....

How Will You Be Remembered?

When I was at the ranch this past weekend, the last two people I figured I would be reminded of were the Moms. My mom and my grandma, who we also called Mom (or Mom R. if they were both around.) Being that the ranch is definitely not their idea of anything exciting, I was actually quite surprised and a little touched when certain things reminded me of them.

There are these really small trees that don't last but a few seasons and then they die. Once deceased, they remain as these little grey wooden sculptures, that for some reason are so fascinating to me. I just love the way their branches and twigs intertwine and every time I see one, I am always reminded of Mom R. She was definitely known for scarring neat things from nature, especially in her own unique way. She was the type that would find different pieces of bark, hot glue it to a piece of cork board, frame it and hang it all over her house. Same with rocks. Ever wanted a frame full of rocks? We've got plenty laying around. Although it's not your typical piece of art, it was something very special about her, and I can just imagine her cutting down one of these small trees and planting it in a big pot as some other rare form of 'art.' Remember the quirky grandmother in Hope Floats, who decorates her home with what a taxidermist would decorate his shop? Same kind of thing, but with wood and rocks.

As mentioned in the previous post, we spent a lot of time this weekend trimming back trees. There are so many different kinds of trees, but my favorite to cut was the cedar. I love the smell of fresh cut cedar, and it made the entire place smell like Christmas. As soon as the scent drifted to my nose, I immediately thought of my precious mommy. She absolutely adores the smell of Christmas trees and it has become our tradition each year to go tree hunting and then decorate it together. I like to refer to her as the Tree Nazi, because she will spend FOREVER critiquing each tree, making the poor help uncut the netting of every tree in sight. We're not allowed to have a fake Christmas tree, because she says they just don't smell the same...even with that artificial Christmas scent spray. I remember the one time we were allowed to have a fake tree, and that was when I was a kid and she finally gave in to my annoying (I'm sure) begging for one of those frosted, glittery, fake white trees. Now that I look back, those are so disgusting, but I guess I liked it at the time. :) Anyway, ever since that disaster decorated our house, she doesn't care if you have allergies or not...she's getting a real damn Christmas tree!

Anyway, I just thought those were nice things that help me keep the ones I love on my mind, and then I started pondering what reminds people of me. Is it a certain delightful scent, scenery, a song? What special thing is attributed to me that puts a smile on people's faces?

As I was helping clean out Marty's tower stand, it hit me. I know what my 'thing' is. It's bobby pins. Freaking bobby pins! It's been about a year since anyone has been up in that stand, so the floor was covered in leaves, dead bugs, dirt, etc that has accumulated in the off-season, and so as I was cleaning it all up, I saw something shining in the middle of my dust pile. I picked it up and laughed, then put it in my pocket, although I don't know why...it's not like I would put that thing in my hair again! So that made me think about it. Everywhere I go, I find my trail I've left behind...my trail of bobby pins. In my purse, wallet, makeup bag, paperclip holder at work, in my car, in my work bag, in my jewelry case, at my parent's house, next to the bed, in the drawer of the coffee table, behind the kitchen sink, in my pockets, on the pages of my books (true story - they double as bookmarks too,) and apparently, even in the deer blind. I mean I keep them EVERYWHERE. I put on my slacks this morning, a pair I haven't worn since last fall, and sure enough, in my pockets were 13 bobby pins. THIRTEEN! Seriously? Did I wear these pants to prom or something, when I had a freaking warehouse full of bobby pins stashed in my hair? I don't know why...maybe it's my comfort zone. The funny thing is, if I find one, I hoard it like it's the only one I have. If you asked to borrow it, I'd probably make sure I got it back, because ya'know...they're so dang hard to come by.

So if you ever see one laying around, I've been there. I may not have been there in 13 years, but trust me, I've been there...and I've left my mark. I'm just so glad that I'm leaving a very significant imprint on this world. Effing bobby pins!

She's Gone Country..Look At Them Boots!

That was a special song written long ago by my close personal friend AJ, as he was foreshadowing my life. Tis true. Although I wasn't raised in the country, when I get the opportunity to head down to Cheatham Ranch, I feel right at home. I love it there and Sundays are so depressing when we have to leave. How could anyone want to leave this? Friday afternoon I drove down to Robinson to meet up with Marty so we could head to the ranch. But of course, we couldn't be in that area and not first stop at the Heart O' Texas County Fair and Rodeo. I got plenty of lessons on the rules and techniques of several of the events. I'm sure he really wanted me to shut up and quit asking so many questions, because he was pretty focused on the contenders. Once it was all over, we loaded up the truck and headed out west - 4 wheeler, trailer, guns, bow & arrows, guitar, beer and some 'ole fashioned honkytonk all in tow. We got there kind of late on Friday night, so we just unpacked and crashed. I mean, that 5:30 am alarm comes when you're least expecting it, or when you're least welcoming it for that matter. I decided to forgo this round of bow hunting but encouraged him to go on, however he got suckered by the fluffiness of his bed too. Nothing too exciting went down, we just ran around doing some maintenance work on that feeders and stands, and then had to take on the tedious task of trimming trees. In between the night and morning bow hunts, our time was spent chopping and clearing the overgrown brush hanging over the paths of the 500 acre ranch. Did you read that correctly...500. 5 x 100. 100 x 5. 50 x 10. 10 x 50. FIVE HUNDRED ACRES!!! Okay, okay - he chopped and I was lef to clear the debris and drive the truck behind him. MyI made friends along the way and they liked to follow me around. It was a long weekend, full of work that was necessary to prepare for the upcoming hunting weekends, but I loved every minute of it. Well except the fact that I had to constantly be on the lookout for this. Yikes! I personally think that looks better on a pair of stilettos, but whatever, nature is nature.

I got home rather late last night, and had a real hard time getting up this morning...especially since it was raining. Where was that rain this weekend when I was sleeping under a tin roof? Needless to say, today has been a LOOONNNNGGGG day. I got to work and could barely even function. This is how I started my work morning, waiting for my computer to load...and maybe a few minutes after that.I headed down to Starbucks to treat myself to a caffeine boost. They even upped the size of my drink without even charging me. I guess they could tell I really needed a pick-me-up. Once I got my white chocolate mocha flowing, paired with a delicious slice of cinnamon coffee cake, I was one happy camper! But that only lasted until about 2:00 this afternoon, and it has been a nasty downhill plunge since then. Does it look like someone sucked the life out of me? Yay, clock says 4:59. I'm outta here! I can't wait to have a date with my couch tonight! :)

Mutant

Does anyone see something wrong with this picture? Look real close! Why is that when I look in my review mirror, my lips are on my forehead and my chin is on my sunglasses? I've noticed this odd reflection a few times now...does this happen to anyone else?

This Is Normal, Right?

Just a friendly conversation with the Albertson's cashier today on my lunch break:

Cashier: Hi Ma'am. How are you doing today?

Me: I'm well, thank you. And yourself?

Cashier: Great! You havin' a party?

Me: No. What would make you think that?

Cashier: Oh, I don't know...maybe the case of beer, the Fritos and bean dip, the potato chips and ranch dip, the cookies, the cheese...

Me: Sadly, no - this isn't for a party. These are just a few items I needed to swing by and pick up.

Cashier: Oh um okay. Well, have a great day, fatass.... Uhhhh .... I mean, ma'am!
